Mets Topple Phillies, 10-6, as Chavez Shines
|
In the 10-6 New York win over Philadelphia, the impact of Jesus Chavez was substantial. Chavez, who finished 2nd in the AL in extra base hits with 88 in 2042, was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Ben Dicks earned his 2nd save in 5 chances. With the win, New York raised its record to 83-66.
Chavez had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a first pitch sinker from Lennart Hjelm, he banged a 3-run home run to center, giving the Mets a 9-6 lead. It was the 24th home run of the year for Chavez.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Chavez. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
