Phillies Snatch Late Win
|
Marko Emchenko never let the Nationals get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Phillies to a win, 6-1. Philadelphia reliever Victor Barron picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Reece Nichols took the loss. The third-place Phillies lifted their record to 72-85.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Billy Encinias came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Washington pitcher Reece Nichols, he hit a 1-0 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 2-1.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Encinias.
