Blue Jays Bridle Red Sox, 4-3
|
Toronto Blue Jays starter Tony Rios pitched a strong game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, leading the Blue Jays to victory, 4-3. Rios, now 18-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Spencer Jones got the save, his 1st in 1 chances.
Toronto used the bat of Ruben Velasco to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Rios told a Toronto Citizen reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
The second-place Blue Jays have won 5 straight games.
