Braves Sneak By Mets, 4-3
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the New York Mets home opener. Enkei Wakamatsu started for the home team against Victor Torres for the Atlanta Braves. The Mets were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 4-3, Atlanta. Enkei Wakamatsu, though, was impressive.
Atlanta used the clutch hitting of Jeckel Hester to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Braves ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Atlanta manager Andres Wray II. "It's usually not just one thing."
