Cardinals Prevail, 8-6, Over Chicago
|
Despite a great performance by Chicago third baseman Will Leslie, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Cubs by the score of 8-6 at Busch Stadium. Leslie slugged 2 home runs. Brad Jonas, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. Antonio Lacayo earned the save for St. Louis, his 1st of the year.
In the bottom of the second, Ben Rubenacker hit a grand slam home run. The 2nd home run of the season for the St. Louis first baseman put the Cardinals on top, 6-3.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cardinals manager Jeff Jones. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
The win lifts St. Louis to a record of 1-3.
