Cubs Pull Even With 5-3 Victory
|
The Chicago Cubs racked up a win at Wrigley Field, bumping off the Cincinnati Reds, 5-3. Randy Budgell, who started for Chicago, pitched effectively for his team. Budgell, now 2-2, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. George Poirier earned the save for Chicago, his 1st of the year.
Josh Kalman, who finished 5th in the NL in RBI with 115 last year, chipped in for Chicago with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the left fielder had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Budgell. "Successful pitchers do it."
The win puts Chicago at 11-11.
