Red Sox Need Extra Frames to Get Past Orioles
|
The Boston Red Sox faced a tough opponent in Baltimore pitcher Randy Johnson Jr., but did just enough to pull out the victory at Oriole Park at Camden Yards by a final score of 3-2. Johnson Jr. went 8.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The Orioles fall to 11-15 and continue to sputter in the early going.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Jim Zucco to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
After the game, Boston manager Rob Diederichs applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
