Welch Goes Hitless, Streak Stopped at 26
Saturday, August 19th , 2045
Great Lakes left fielder Ken Welch experienced something against the Peoria Chiefs he hadn't experienced a while: a hitless game.
The Chiefs pitching corps quieted his hot bat and snapped his streak at 26 games, but his teammates picked up the slack to lead the Loons to a 5-1 victory at Dow Diamond.
"Hey, ain't nothin' bad about a losing a 26-game hitting streak," Welch joked with reporters after the game. "Now you guys will have to find someone else to bother for stories."
This year Welch has hit 3 home runs and posted a .389 batting average.
