Arends Booms 3 Homers Monday, October 16th , 2045 Augusta GreenJackets left fielder Fred Arends sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Peoria Chiefs, Arends told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Arends pushed the GreenJackets past the Chiefs, 9-8. To go along with the homers, he collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Arends told reporters after the game. Fred Arends hit a three-run home run off Gareth Haigh in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Joe Cornell in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Ricky Enriquez in the 9th. So far this season Arends is hitting .299 with 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 23 hits in 77 at-bats and a .382 OBP. |
