Villanueva Tames Muckdogs, 9-0
Thursday, August 31st , 2045
Before the game, Gil Villanueva said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Baseball City Complex, the Reds pitcher whitewashed the Batavia Muckdogs 9-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Villanueva said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my fastball even when I was behind in the count."
The Cincinnati (NYP) starter held Batavia scoreless, giving up 3 hits while registering 10 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Muckdogs manager Connor Kaden said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
This year in 23 starts, Villanueva has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 9 losses. He has pitched 134.2 innings, allowed 116 hits, struck out 158 and has a 4.21 ERA.
