Pirates Come up Short of Playoffs Thursday, September 28th , 2045 It wasn't meant to be for the Pittsburgh Pirates this year. Despite a tough battle, they were eliminated from playoff contention today. "It is a bad feeling," said Pirates reliever Chad Mangum. "Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen. But you've gotta get in there first, and we weren't able to do that." This is the club's 11th playoff miss in a row. They last appeared in the postseason in 2034.In total, the Pirates have missed the playoffs 139 times in their 159-year history. Pittsburgh last won the World Series in 1979. |
