Burt Raps 3 HR Against Wildcats Tuesday, December 5th , 2045 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Don Burt swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Jackie Robinson Stadium, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the University of Arizona Wildcats were better. The UCLA Bruins couldn't capitalize on the big game from Burt and dropped the contest 14-10. The mood in the Bruins clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Wildcats to spoil the day for Burt. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," UCLA manager Juan Smith Jr. said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Burt collected 6 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the UCLA catcher told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Don Burt grounded out in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Victor Maravilla in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Danny Estrada in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Danny Estrada in the 7th and walked in the 9th. Burt currently has a .355 batting average with 91 hits, 17 homers, 53 RBIs, 49 runs scored and a .437 OBP. |
