Blast Off! 3 HR for Garduno
Sunday, December 24th , 2045
His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Ramon Garduno swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the UCLA Bruins were better.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Tar Heels couldn't capitalize on the big game from Garduno and dropped the contest 15-10.
The mood in the Tar Heels clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Bruins to spoil the day for Garduno.
"Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill manager Brandon Wagner said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level."
In addition to the homers, Garduno collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill first baseman told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3."
Ramon Garduno hit a solo-shot off Yoshida Abe in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Rick Chesney in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Dave Williams in the 9th and walked in the 11th.
This season Garduno is batting at a .262 clip with 34 home runs and 99 RBIs.
