Gordon Untouchable, Tosses No-Hitter
Tuesday, September 26th , 2045
The no-hitter is one of baseball's truly egalitarian achievements. It's done by the great and the not-so-great alike, and for nearly all of them it represents the pinnacle of a career. Winnipeg Goldeyes pitcher David Gordon had his moment today at Brockton Fields, holding the Brockton Rox hitless and beating them, 4-0.
"Everything was working for him," Rox manager Doug Brockett said. "He had a lot of late movement that seemed to cause the guys trouble, especially from the fifth inning on. He was in command."
Gordon rung up 18 strikeouts, issued 1 walk and faced only 27 hitters in his historic outing. After the game, he spoke to BNN reporters in the Winnipeg locker room.
"I really got nervous in the last inning," Gordon recalled. "I knew I had a chance at a no-hitter but it was hard to stay calm and concentrate. Thank goodness for my catcher. He told me he would do all the thinking and I could just concentrate on hitting his glove."
He has made 1 relief appearance this year with 0 saves. Gordon has achieved a 17-3 record while holding opposing hitters to a .156 batting average and posting a 1.98 ERA. He has tossed 173 innings, given up 93 base hits, fanned 302 and issued 52 walks.
