16-K Game for Indians Shields Sunday, October 1st , 2045 Mike Shields of the Canton Indians put on a pitching clinic today at Canton Ballpark as he struck out 16 Hamilton Cardinals in a 6-1 victory. Shields, who is tied for 2nd in the EL with a 14.7 K/9 rate, was simply magnificent as he held the Cardinals to 2 hits. He walked 0. "I felt okay at the beginning," Shields said, "but eventually my fastball really started working. I also have to thank my catcher for calling a great game." When asked about Shields's performance, Indians manager Bryan Oland shook his head and said, "Yeah, he was good out there today. He was dominating." To this point in the year Shields has put up a 19-2 won-lost mark, made no relief appearances and rung up no saves. He has a 1.98 ERA and has allowed 116 hits over his 181.2 innings of work, struck out 296 batters and walked 18. |
