Smith 5-for-6 for Beavers Tuesday, October 24th , 2045 It was a sensational day at the plate for Gary Smith as he led the charge to a 16-12 win over the Cavaliers. The Oregon State University third baseman was pure misery for the University of Virginia pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked with 5 hits in 6 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. "Smith put the ball into play and he really hit it hard," said Patrick Cooper, manager for the Cavaliers, after the game. "When you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Gary Smith hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. To date, Smith has collected 63 hits for a .294 average. He has posted 9 home runs, scored 37 runs and driven in 41 runs. |
