Sun Devils Pitching Ravaged by Alvarez Thursday, October 26th , 2045 It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Ivan Alvarez today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Phoenix Municipal Stadium and paced the Gators to a 13-6 win over the Arizona State University Sun Devils. After his dynamite batting performance, the University of Florida shortstop told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 6 tries and put his name in the record book. Ivan Alvarez doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th. This season Alvarez is swinging the bat at a .449 rate with 57 hits in 127 at-bats. To date he has hit no home runs, scored 40 runs and driven in 22. |
