Hits Galore: Van Steenwyk Drills 5 Hits Friday, December 1st , 2045 It was a big day with the bat for Simon Van Steenwyk of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers at Haymarket Park as he bashed out hit after hit after hit to defeat the Arizona State University Sun Devils, 29-12. After the game he said, "Guys, it's just one game in a long season. I hit it hard and found some holes today. 5 hits in 6 tries. But my hits are not the big thing in the game. The victory is the important thing. That's the story." At the end of the game Van Steenwyk had collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats and a small mention in the record book. And the Cornhuskers had won. Simon Van Steenwyk grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and doubled in the 8th. On the year Van Steenwyk is hitting .369 with 73 hits, 11 home runs, 55 RBIs, .434 OBP and has scored 49 runs. |
