Pirates Deal Cardinals 4-3 Loss
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, in National League action at Busch Stadium. Pittsburgh pitcher Sam Richardson had a standout performance. Jeremy Kennie sewed up the save, his 10th. The victory gives Pittsburgh a record of 18-16.
Pittsburgh used the bat of Raul Mendoza to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said St. Louis manager Jeff Jones Jr., "let me know."
