Tigers Lose By a Run at Oakland, 3-2
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Detroit Tigers, 3-2, in American League action at O.co Coliseum. Oakland pitcher Elijah Everett had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Everett, now 1-0. He tossed 5.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6. Mike Pedigo nailed down his 2nd save.
The Tigers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Athletics going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 28-year old first baseman Ryan Kinkead came to the plate. Kinkead hit a 2-run home run on a 0-1 changeup from Detroit hurler Adrian Hamilton. It was Kinkead's 4th home run of the year.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Detroit manager Jeff Martin. "But we decided not to take it."
With the victory, the Athletics upped their record to 20-20.
