Astros Lose By a Run at New York, 4-3
|
The New York Yankees downed the Houston Astros, 4-3. The hitting star was right fielder Russ Shambaugh. Shambaugh was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Yankees. John Brice picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 8. On the season, he is now 5-3. Joel Pacheco got the save, the 11th for him this season.
Shambaugh had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a 2-1 fastball from Andy Montelongo, he banged a solo home run to left, giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Shambaugh.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Shambaugh said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
