Hits Galore: Jara Drills 5 Hits
A jubilant Luis Jara joined the postgame press conference at Carolina Stadium today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks pitching staff he had just vanquished.

"It may not have looked like it," said the Vanderbilt University Commodores shortstop, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."

That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led the Commodores to a 8-5 win.

"He made it look easy," said Javier Zuniga, manager of the Gamecocks. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."

Luis Jara hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

This season Jara has banged out 19 hits in 63 at-bats for a .302 average with 1 home run. He is getting on base at a .371 pace and his totals also include 10 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
