Orioles Nip Athletics, 5-4
|
Orioles center fielder Bob Melley put his stamp on his team's 5-4 win over the Oakland Athletics. Melley went 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Baltimore in the contest. Justin Dine, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 6 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The save was credited to Riso Profanter, his 8th.
The Orioles got a big hit from second baseman Paul Diaz. In the top of the seventh, Diaz pounded a run-scoring triple to center. His 2nd triple of the season put the Orioles ahead, 5-0.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Baltimore manager Mike Neugebauer.
