Bonner Slugs Nationals to 5-1 Win
|
The Washington Nationals relied on the hitting of second baseman Justin Bonner to stop the Miami Marlins, 5-1. For the game, Bonner slugged 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The winning pitcher was Danny Diaz. His record is now 4-6. The right-hander went 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits for the Nationals. At 22-31, the Nationals claim last place in the National League East Division.
With Washington leading 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Bonner hit a fastball from Matt Payne for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Nationals ahead, 5-0.
"I thought we played a nice game," Bonner told the Washington Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
