The Cincinnati Reds topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 7-5, with the largest share of the credit going to third baseman Willie Lazcano. Lazcano belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Reds. Jeff Baker, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-4. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Juan Barroso recorded the save, his 5th.

Lazcano had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-2 cutter from Josh Ambrose, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Reds a 4-2 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Lazcano.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Lazcano.

Cincinnati raised its record to 29-23 with the win.
