Nationals Lose to Phillies, 8-6
|
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Washington Nationals, 8-6, in National League action at Citizens Bank Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Philadelphia shortstop Lance Franklin. Matt Evans was the winner. Over 7 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Jamie Verberkmoes earned the save for Philadelphia, his 2nd.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth when Franklin, the 2nd overall pick in the 2043 draft, hit a 2-run single. It propelled the Phillies into the lead, 3-1.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Franklin, "and then get after it again."
Philadelphia is now 24-34, while Washington is 24-34.
