White Sox Take Down Cardinals, 7-1
|
The Chicago White Sox picked up a win at U.S. Cellular Field, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-1. On the mound for Chicago was right-hander Ricky Salas, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winning pitcher was Salas, now 8-2. He tossed 7.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 10. The White Sox lead the American League Central Division by 11½ games.
The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the third inning, but Salas was able to pitch out of a jam. With the bases loaded and St. Louis trailing 1-0, Salas retired Antoine Roux, who struck out.
