Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh on the strength of starter Jeff Baker's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-1. Baker, now 6-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 10, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Timmy John Aaron-Lee Frank Silveira converted his 1st save in 2 tries.

Cincinnati took a 4-1 lead on Fred Slade's 7th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Pittsburgh pitcher Kwang-sik Kim in the bottom of the eighth.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Baker said.

With the win, Cincinnati pushed its record to 33-25.
