Brooklyn Hexed: No-Hit by Mozgo
|
The Rome Braves were just hoping for a solid outing from Ioakim Mozgo. Instead, they got something special.
The 21-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Brooklyn Cyclones, helping the Braves take the 13-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Braves. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Mozgo's repertoire has a splitter, fastball, and changeup, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Brooklyn hitters off balance all game long. The Rome hurler fanned 26 and walked 1 in his history-making performance.
"His splitter looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Brooklyn manager Tyler Lyons joked after the game.
This season Mozgo has been credited with no saves. In no relief appearances and 70 innings he has a 8-1 won-lost mark, 1.93 ERA and 133 strikeouts
