5 Straight Wins for Cardinals
|
New York got a big-time effort from pitcher Steve Kelly, but it wasn't enough to keep the St. Louis Cardinals from winning the game, 4-3. Kelly threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. St. Louis reliever Nick Suggett got the win, raising his record to 3-3. Xu-gang Zhou was tagged with the loss. Danny Romero was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 20 save opportunities.
St. Louis took a 4-3 lead on Antoine Roux's 16th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off New York pitcher Xu-gang Zhou in the bottom of the eighth.
"Luck is a dividend of sweat," said Roux. "The more you sweat, the luckier you get."
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for the Cardinals.
