Rangers Need Extra Innings to Top Red Sox, 5-4
Boston center fielder Mike Mentzer had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Mentzer went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Texas beat the Red Sox, 5-4. Texas reliever Brad Kramer picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Guadalupe Vasguez took the loss. Mike Webb converted his 5th save in 5 tries.

Texas used a timely hit from John Giesbrecht to get the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rangers ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Juan Smith III, the Texas manager.

The victory gives Texas a record of 51-28.
