Pirates Come Back Late to Top Braves, 2-1
|
The Atlanta Braves got a superb performance from pitcher Kevin Ovens-Toots. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Pittsburgh. The Pirates won the game, 2-1. Ovens-Toots threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Jeremy Kennie converted his 24th save in 27 tries. Pittsburgh now has a record of 47-33 with the win.
Pittsburgh used the clutch hitting of Bubba Tierney to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Tierney.
