Pirates Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0
|
San Diego right fielder Mike Holt pounded Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers at PNC Park, but it was not enough to keep the Padres from falling, 6-4 in Game 3 of the League Championship Series. Holt was 2 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2, though he couldn't keep the Padres from slipping to a 3-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.
Vincent Poopwell dealt the Padres a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Pittsburgh trailing 1-0, Poopwell, who is a six-time All-Star, hit a first pitch cutter for a 2-run double.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Pittsburgh manager Kevin Giles.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
