Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Robbie Rogers, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics, 7-3. Rogers was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Red Sox. Reece Nichols, the winning pitcher, is now 4-6. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 8 and walking 1. Boston is 40-46 and Oakland, with the loss, 39-46.
Boston grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Rogers, who finished 2nd in the AL in batting average with .357 in 2044, hit a bases-clearing triple. His 6th triple of the season put the Red Sox out in front, 5-2.
