Red Sox Upend Mets, 5-3
|
The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Mets, 5-3, in American League action at Citi Field. Boston pitcher Justin Whitesack had a standout performance. Whitesack, now 6-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Guadalupe Vasguez earned his 19th save in 22 chances.
Boston used the bat of Robbie Rogers to capture the win. The designated hitter jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Whitesack. "Just do my job."
The loss makes New York 44-42.
