Expos Drop Yankees, 5-4
|
The New York Yankees and Montreal Expos provided some drama for the home crowd.
The New York Yankees got a superb performance from center fielder Evan Torraville. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Montreal. The Expos won the game, 5-4. Torraville was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Steve Barrett earned the win for Montreal. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 8-6.
Montreal third baseman Steve Anderson contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a slider into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 66th hit of the season and put the Expos ahead, 3-1.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," New York manager Vince Deyzel said following the tough loss.
With the win, Montreal upped its record to 53-35.
