Miyahara Tosses Shutout Against New Jersey
|
The Niagara Falls Phantoms shut out the New Jersey Devils 11-0 today behind the strong pitching of Toshikazu Miyahara. Miyahara surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 16.
Following the last out, Miyahara appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for New Jersey manager Adrian Sapien, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Miyahara's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Devils skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Phantoms press conference, Miyahara confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Miyahara said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Niagara Falls manager Richard Hauser added.
In 8 starts this season Miyahara has compiled a 3-4 record and a 4.33 ERA.
