Multi-HR Day for Ortiz as Pirates Overpower Cubs, 7-2
|
The Chester Pirates defeated the Paris Cubs, 7-2. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Marcos Ortiz, who went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Feng-yi Zhu got credit for the win, improving to 14-9. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6.2 innings. The first-place Pirates, at 82-47, now lead their division by 2½ games.
With Chester leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Ortiz hit a solo home run off Paris hurler Luis Ibarra. It was the 22nd home run of the season for Ortiz and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Ortiz said after the game.
