Pirates Subdue Billings, 3-1
|
Bristol starter Tony Contreras put a stranglehold on the Billings offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Pirates to a 3-1 win. Contreras, now 18-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. The Pirates bumped their record to 69-67 with this latest triumph.
Evan Gittleson hit a 2-run home run off Eduardo Barrera in the bottom of the first, which put the Pirates ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Gittleson had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
Gittleson called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
