Cardinals Snatch Late Win
|
St. Louis designated hitter Tom Butterbaugh contributed to his team's 5-3 win over the San Francisco Giants. Butterbaugh went 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Cardinals. St. Louis reliever Steve Cooper was the winner. His record is now 4-3. The losing pitcher was Chris Moris. Danny Romero earned his 26th save in 33 chances.
St. Louis used the clutch hitting of Eric Chotkowski to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Butterbaugh called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
The 4th-place Cardinals now have a win-loss record of 51-60.
