Kalman, Cubs Beat Nationals, 12-9
The Chicago Cubs topped the Washington Nationals, 12-9, with designated hitter Josh Kalman playing a big role. Kalman was 4-4 with a home run, 2 triples, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 7 for the Cubs in the win. Chicago pitcher Eric Oakes got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Marquise Barretti got the loss. The Nationals, now 49-67, have lost 4 straight.

Kalman had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Travis Plesz, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Cubs a 12-9 lead. It was the 25th home run of the year for Kalman.

"We'll savor this win," Kalman told the Chicago Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."
