|
Philadelphia Phillies starter James Woods Jr. pitched a strong game against the Miami Marlins at Marlins Park, leading the Phillies to victory, 2-0. The winning pitcher was Woods Jr., now 11-10. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Jamie Verberkmoes got the save, his 17th in 20 chances.
Philadelphia relied on the hitting of Osamu Kubo to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Phillies on top, 2-0. For the game, Kubo had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Woods Jr. said.
The 4th-place Phillies improved to 60-71.
