Pirates Raise Rally Flag, Beat Cincinnati, 8-4
|
Cincinnati got a terrific performance from pitcher Jeff Baker, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsburgh won the Great American Ball Park contest, 8-4. Baker threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. Jeremy Kennie, now 6-5, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. Pittsburgh is now 83-49, 12½ games up in the National League Central Division.
Marvin McAleer made it 5-4 in favor of Pittsburgh when he delivered a 2-run single. It came with two out in the top of the ninth. The Pirates went on to win.
"We'll put that win in the can," said McAleer, "and go after the next one."
