The Detroit Tigers defeated the Minnesota Twins, 8-5, at Target Field. Detroit shortstop Jim Zucco had a superb performance. He went 2-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 5. Bobby Jones, credited with the save, is now 24 for 27 in save opportunities. Detroit is now 60-74, while Minnesota is 48-85.

Zucco had a timely hit for Detroit in the top of the ninth. With Minnesota trailing 5-4, he turned a full count cutter into a bases-clearing double. It was his 23rd double of the season, making it 7-5, Detroit.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Detroit manager Jeff Martin.
