Pittsburgh Gets 7-3 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a win at Citizens Bank Park, knocking off the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3. Starting pitcher Ian Toney played a key role in the triumph. The Pirates, at 87-50, have a comfortable 14½-game lead in their division.
The result might have been different for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Andrew Robinson, the 26-year old first baseman . Robinson stroked a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Pittsburgh up, 4-3. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We had a good game plan," Toney said, "and we were able to execute it."
