Padres Get Past St. Louis for 5-4 Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a superb performance from second baseman Pavpv Ivanushkin, but the San Diego Padres still won the game, 5-4. Ivanushkin went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Arturo Diaz collected his 18th save. San Diego is now 95-48, 10½ games up in the National League West Division.
Had Dietmar Warmisch not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Warmisch hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Padres.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Warmisch told the San Diego Times. "But we take nothing for granted."
