Reds Nip Pirates, 8-7
|
The Cincinnati Reds overcame a good performance by Pittsburgh center fielder Steve Jordan to knock off Pittsburgh, 8-7, at Great American Ball Park. Jordan was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Cincinnati reliever Jeff Urry was credited with the win, to go to 1-2. Jeremy Kennie took the loss for Pittsburgh. After today's action, Cincinnati sits at 70-76, while Pittsburgh falls to 94-52.
The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Cincinnati trailing 7-6, Chris Grunwald hit a forkball from Jeremy Kennie to left-center for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Reds had a walk-off win.
"We came out aggressive," said Reds manager Jimmy Silveira II. "We came out swinging the bats."
