Loss to Indians Extends Detroit Losing Streak
|
The Cleveland Indians topped the Detroit Tigers, 4-3, with center fielder Tommy Baird playing a big role. Baird was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Indians in the win. Douglas ten Pas earned the win for Cleveland. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 5-9. Juan Flores was credited with the save for Cleveland, his 19th of the season.
The Tigers had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Indians going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 12-year veteran Hector Pedroso came to the plate. Pedroso hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch fastball from Detroit hurler Ryan Sobocinski. It was Pedroso's 6th double of the year.
"We're our own worst enemy right now," said Detroit skipper Jeff Martin.
The losses continue to add up for Detroit, which has now fallen 11 times in a row.
