Pittsburgh Gets 5-4 Win
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up a win at Miller Park, knocking off the Milwaukee Brewers, 5-4. On the mound for Pittsburgh was left-hander Tim Wichman, who played a pivotal role in the win. Wichman, the winner, moves to 11-5. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 4 walks. Picking up the save was Jeremy Kennie, his 45th.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Mike Bates to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pirates ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Wichman said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
Pittsburgh, at 102-59, is 19 games up in the National League Central Division.
