|
No one was more impactful than Andre Gorter in the 9-1 Miami win over Chicago. Gorter, who finished 3rd in the NL in wins above replacement with 7.6 in 2043, was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Matt Payne got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 5. The loss puts Chicago at 1-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Miami shortstop Roger Salazar had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, Salazar stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-1, Miami. For the game, he went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 runs.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Salazar told the Miami Daily.
